D'ya Say D'Orsay?

I may or may not be making an utter fool out of myself by making this post, but we'll see. The reason I say that is because this "new" style of ballet flat, called the "D'Orsay" flat is news to my ears. While shopping online on Urban Outfitters I came across a few flats with this silhouette and I adopted a liking to all of them, then I went on to Nordstrom.com and proceeded to find many flats of the same style. As far as I can tell this silhouette is fairly new but to others maybe not. Personally, I'm extremely fond of this style, after a couple of years of the classic ballet flat feeling somewhat ostracized I think it was time for a new style to be up and coming. I think they're a perfect mix between the pointy-toed loafer that blew up this summer and like I mentioned, the ballet flat. Here are some of my favorites.

A Pocketful of Sunflowers

Wearing: Forever 21 top, Ruby&Jenna shorts, Topshop sandals, Ray-Ban sunglasses, Casio watch, Etsy necklace

Sunflowers on sunflowers, heck, even on my crotch! Well, if you want to be precise than the flowers on my shorts aren't actual sunflowers, I'd rather not embarrass myself like I did before editing this post as I referred to the yellow flowers in the background as daisies. Consequently, I'm not sure of the actual name for the flowers on my shorts, lets just say I don't consider myself a flower aficionado, although I think I'd take quite the pleasure in learning a thing or two about flowers. Besides that, I feel that these shorts oddly resemble a diaper... they're a bit bulky in the material and the the trim goes up in a diagonal way, characteristics of a diaper if you ask me. So, do I hate wearing them? No, the opposite actually, I take pride in my diaper shorts

A Whole 'Nother Level

Wearing: Topshop dress and shirt, Urban Outfitters sandals and sunglasses, Nasty Gal purse

In my opinion it is one thing to wear a pair of overalls without a problem, but it's a whole 'nother story to go to the level of wearing an overall dress without thinking twice. Thanks to the likes of Leandra and Danielle, my qualms for donning anything with the word "overall" in it are pretty much  nonexistent (I wouldn't be surprised if those two sleep in overalls). Sure some people might mistaken me for an oversized toddler at some points but others may take a liking to my nonconformity (well, nonconformity in their eyes) and mentally applaud my outfit. Underneath the dress I chose to wear this dainty and elegant mesh top that makes the dress seem more grown-up, if you will.

All Black Everything

Wearing: forever 21 top / urban outfitters shorts & shoes & bralette

Today I somehow seemed to go along with the "all black" connotation commonly associated with NYC fashion aficionados, and in the summer this look is considered even more insane by the public, primarily now because of the scorchingly hot humid weather us east-coasters have managed to adopt from the Floridians. But, whatever, that's all I have to say because I'm sure many Manhattanites can agree that an all-black ensemble is chic and easy to put together for their on-the-go lives; in my opinion there is a certain vibe I pick up from an all black outfit as opposed to say, a full on color blocked outfit. Some non-Mamay consider that "vibe" depressed, or dreary, for that matter, yet sophistication and even high-fashion are the words that pop into my crazy head.

A Kitschy Ensemble

Wearing: H&M top, DIY'd shorts, Topshop sandals, choker necklace from thecobrasnake.com, Marc by Marc Jacobs button necklace

Something like this is not typically my style, the amount of tacky aspects of this outfit is just a tad bit overdone, let's name a few: the pineapples, ladybugs, daisies, heart patch, and then to top it all off I just had to throw on my heart button necklace, purchased for $1 from the BookMarc store, a whole bunch of them were just sitting at the checkout counter for $1 a piece, and it was Marc Jacobs so of course I had to get it, aware that I'd wear it two times, at most. I am not entirely sure of my thought process for this outfit, I knew I wanted to wear this awesome pineapple top I just bought from H&M, but I guess I just wanted to have fun with it and "go all out" so I threw on my DIY'd shorts that I "mistakingly" had to put patches over because bleach eats threw denim pretty roughly and felt the need to add daisies and ladybugs also... the necklaces were just an extra I guess. The outcome: a cool outfit, the only words I have for it.

HOW I STYLE | leather in the summertime

I don't know about you but lately I've been loving leather, to the extent of wanting to wear it every day and when summer came my love for it didn't really seem to budge much... My point is that I've been wearing leather in the summer a lot, despite how sticky it makes you feel, but... problem solved! In this video above I styled 5 looks of how I wear "leather in the summer" and made sure the outfits were (#1) lightweight and (#2) came across as "summery" despite the fact that I'm wearing black leather.
By the way, just wanted to point out that all of these looks involve pleather, I forget to mention that, but you could of probably figured it out by where I bought the items!
