Alexa Chung Inspiration Boards

Celebrity Profile

 Style

Color

For one of my classes at FIT, my fabric styling class, I had to choose a celebrity and create three different boards for him/her. I chose Alexa Chung because I adore her style, it's simple but she manages to keep make big statements. Her style is a mix of feminine and menswear inspired pieces, and has somewhat of a grunge feel to it so that's how I wanted my boards to feel. enjoy!

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Twiggy! This 60s model makes for the perfect costume, the most important piece of this outfit is the false eyelashes, which you would need to go extreme with since her eyelashes ARE extreme. The other thing to make sure to do is to put your hair all the way back with just a small bun in the back of your head to make it appear that you have no hair, like Twiggy.

I think we can all guess who this is.. Karl Lagerfeld! You should have all of these things in your closet, or your dad's (the tie), with the exception of the black leather fingerless gloves which make the outfit!

This is a little bit of a different costume, only a few would be able to appreciate it. Personally I love Bill Cunningham so I thought this outfit was the perfect idea, really simple also. The key to this costume is the camera around your neck!

Of course, the infamous Audrey Hepburn, for this costume you may need to go out and buy a few things, like the crown, stick, gloves...But it makes for an amazing costume!

New In: Detachable Collar

Finally! I've been wanting one of these for the longest time because I think detachable collars can just instantly "spruce" up an outfit, worn the right way, a lot of things I own I feel are very versatile but this not so much. In my case I just paired it with a simple sweater but there are many good and not so good ways to wear something like this. I know I could of easily cut off a denim collar from an old shirt but I really didn't want to cut off any of mine, I like my collars... I saw this on Urban Outfitters and I was buying a few other things then I saw this so I was like why not buy it?

I'm Out of Sight, I'm Out of Mind

Wearing: ASOS crop top / Forever 21 flannel / UO leather shorts / Dolce Vita loafers

I'm surprised I'm keeping up with outfit posts on a week with 6 tests, I'm pretty proud. Anyway, I hate talking about school on here so the top portion of this outfit is pretty mainstream in my eyes because it consists of two things that work amazing together and are so versatile: the now infamous turtleneck crop top and plaid flannel. These two items instantly make an outfit "cool" I'd buy 20 versions of those two items and make it my daily uniform if I could.

Sheer Velour

Wearing: H&M leggings, Forever 21 cardigan, Forever 21 button up

Due to the fact that velour is my new obsession I don't think it'd be a surprise that these leggings are one of my loves. My next purchase will probably be another pair of velour leggings, not sure what color yet though. Also I have a velour skirt that I haven't worn yet, I can't wait to wear that one either!

Maxi's and Knits

Wearing: Topshop sweater, UO flannel, Brandy Melville maxi skirt, Cambridge Satchel

Ahh, I haven't posted all week, I'm so annoyed with myself and I know this post doesn't really make up for the fact since it's just a single picture but not only have I been busy but I've been having computer problems so... more posts next week!

Raw

Wearing: Vintage top and vest, Forever 21 leggings

Does anyone else think that crappy quality pictures are cool? I do for some reason but sorry for the people who hate them, every once in a while when I'm feeling lazy I'll post these instead of "formal" OOTD's.

Current Wants

Hey guys, sorry I've been MIA the past few days, I promise more OOTD's to come! For now I just wanted to list some of my current "wants" for fall. Of course, I know I won't get all of these items soon so I just push them back to my Christmas list (72 days!).

Although this is sort of pricey for just a shirt that I won't get to wear often, I will make myself wear it often because of the price, and hey, it has Karl's face on the front, how much better can you get?

I have a smaller, gold Casio watch now and I wear it so much, I am in love with it so I definitely want a bigger one that is silver

I only have one pair of docs right now and love them, other than the fact that they hurt my feet terribly, but that's beside the point, I would collect them if I could and desperately want another pair!

I never really liked creepers but I've gotten into them recently and despite how much I hate leopard I kind of like it on these because they are much more "grungey" than "leopardy"

I adore the contrasting sleeve look on jackets... especially with this cargo/military fabric

All I want is a jacket that is adorable and can keep my warm, and I think a parka can do the trick, some fur won't hurt either!

Last we have the Wang look-a-like, the Alexa bag from BagInc. This thing is gorgeous.

Colors of Fall

Wearing: Thrifted sweater, Vintage Johnny Cash shirt (underneath), American Apparel Circle skirt, Topshop booties

The colors of this outfit scream fall to me, tans, blacks, greys, pretty boring colors in my opinion but when mixed right I think they look amazing together. Also, surprisingly I'm wearing one of my circle skirts from AA again, they are just so great, I cannot get over them. I would buy 10 if I could...

Plaid is Back

Since the whole 90's theme has become so prominent this season, plaid is included. Plaid was huge about a year or two ago and I wouldn't consider wearing it a few months ago but this season I incorporate plaid into so many of my outfits. The great thing about plaid being so popular a few years ago is that you don't have to go out and buy a new shirt.

This is just a quick set showing how I would style a plaid button up, it's a very versatile type of shirt and print that works with so many things but personally, when I throw on a plaid shirt these are the first things that come to my mind.

Prints on Prints plus Metal

Wearing: Forever 21 top and  pants, Jeffrey Campbell sneakers, Hair cuff from Ebay

Hair accessories have been my obsession for a while now, and this hair cuff just adds to my collection. I literally never wear my hair in a ponytail but I had to in order to wear this metal cuff because I am in love with it, I adore how it is a bit rustic and not as "shiny" as the regular hair cuffs. I purchased mine from a story on ebay but H&M sells them also!

Playing with Proportions

Wearing: Abercrombie flannel, Vest from Beacon's Closet, Forever 21 skirt, Bow from etsy, Topshop booties

One of my many favorite trends this season is what I like to call "playing with proportions". Many of you probably interpret this as something like a baggy top and tight fitting bottom which is completely true but I really like this spin which is just taking a skirt, specifically skater style, and throwing really any shirt (slightly baggy) over the skirt, without tucking it in. Essentially, the skirt should peak out at the bottom and overall it creates a really effortless look. I am definitely planning on wearing this trend many times this season when I'm in a rush to find something to wear.
