Red is the New Black

w e a r i n g : Cheap Monday jeans / Forever 21 turtleneck and flannel, Asos Shelly London loafers / Casio watch

The snow has been ridiculous the past few weeks to say the least. Though it looks bone chilling freezing in these pictures from the massive amount of snow it was actually about 40 degrees. Anybody from the West Coat stop reading right now: and that 40 degree weather felt like spring to me. To say I am envious of you Californians' is an understatement, the thought of 70-80 degree weather in winter has not left my mind. If Manhattan wasn't as great as it is then I can promise you that my tartan-butt would be in Cali the day after I graduate high school.
My outfit consists of, yet again, another turtleneck, this one is different though, it is a very thin sweater-like material. I also felt like accenting a lot in red today, don't ask me why. I added this tartan flannel around my waist and threw on my chunky red loafers. Following that I went and got my nails painted red. Don't assume this is permanent, no one could replace my beloved neutrals.

Wearable Art

When I heard Nina Garcia say that "fashion is not art" on Project Runway I rewound the show a few seconds back (thank god for DVR) just to make sure that I heard right. With that, is fashion art? My stance on the question is that fashion is absolutely art, no doubt about it. The Merriam-Webster definition of art is "something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings". This definition is certainly applicable to clothing, and even more then clothing, fashion. Lets see, clothing is made with imagination and skill while fashion expresses important ideas or feelings. With Spring Couture 210 just wrapping up I figured it would be the perfect time to address this question. Between the picture of Adam and Eve on a Valentino gown (above) and Maison Martin Margiela using "unconventional" materials to create what should be haute couture, I think the answer is clear in this case. For Chanel on the other hand there may be some controversy, many people would not consider fanny-packs and knee-pads art.
What do you think, is fashion a form of wearable art?

Mohair and Pinstripes

w e a r i n g : Free People pants / Forever 21 sweater & turtleneck / Jeffery Campbell boots / Casio watch

A great pair of versatile pants is something I always struggle to find in the wintertime because I get tired of jeans too quickly. I fell into these pants at Free People the day after Christmas, I always find the best stuff on that day… These pants are my favorite color at the moment: navy. And they are striped, not the thick stripe that I think we are all tired of, but pinstriped. I paired them with a white turtleneck and my matching white Jeffrey Campbells. If there's one thing I'm going to miss from winter it will probably be turtlenecks, I hate to sound like a loser but they are so comfortable and, in my opinion, they look so polished and modern. But you can have your own opinion, no offense taken!

It's All About Balance

w e a r i n g : Marc by Marc Jacobs tee shirt, Forever 21 pants and kimono, H&M boots, Nixon watch, Free People socks

Though you are probably tired of hearing me say this: I am obsessed with plaid. Lately, I don't feel an outfit is complete without a hint of tartan, gingham or plain old plaid. With that said, let's me make it a goal for me to not feature plaid in any of my upcoming outfit posts, let see how I do!

Today's outfit is kind of different for me. Between the bright red beanie and sport rubber Nixon watch, I just feel cool. However, of course I made sure to balance the sportiness out with a floral kimono and lace socks. It's all about balance boys and girls, that is probably my number one rule when it comes to fashion.
